We run a busy travel clinic within a multi-specialty centre in the City of London - in a happy, friendly environment, looking after a well, working population.
The travel clinic primarily gives travel health advice to a range of clients from business people and journalists to backpackers. The job includes everything from administering medicines and giving vaccines to providing a full range of medical kits and selling travel related products. The nurses are also responsible for maintaining good relationships with corporate clients, suppliers, ordering and maintaining stock, and dealing with the associated administration and accounts. A basic understanding of computers is necessary to maintain accurate records (we use both Macs and PCs, and have a high speed connection to the Internet).
A large portion of our work is concerned with looking after journalists working in hostile environments abroad, and especially preparing medical supplies for them. Our clients often face unusual and challenging situations which in turn make the work stimulating and rewarding.
The position involves working closely with Dr Richard Dawood, a specialist in travel medicine. Previous experience of UK travel clinic practice is NOT an essential requirement of the post. However, personal travel experience in the tropics, and/or voluntary work or tropical nursing experience would be valuable, as would previous experience in the military. A suitable postgraduate qualification eg Dip Trav Med or a Tropical Nursing Diploma would be a distinct advantage.
This is a full-time position, which entails working Monday to Friday, 8.45 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., with some flexibility beyond these times to ensure that the job is done.
The position comes with a high degree of professional freedom and responsibility, with many opportunities for acquiring new skills, and is free from many of the restrictions and frustrations of working in an NHS-based environment.
Other activities from this centre include a GP practice, nationwide Flu vaccination in season, Optometry, Chiropody, Dentistry, Physiotherapy and Osteopathy, and the position would include involvement with certainly the first two of these. Everyone in the practice works closely together, and certain tasks can be uniform for everybody - for example answering phones and making appointments for the various services during busy periods, and generally helping out.
Enthusiasm and a flexible and adaptable approach are the most important qualities we are looking for!
Up to two positions may be available, commencing Spring 2008.
