Richard trained in medicine at University College Hospital, has studied at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene, and practised in a variety of clinical settings at teaching hospitals in the UK and overseas before establishing the Fleet Street Clinic with Gillian Whitby in 1995. He has been involved in Travel Medicine for more than thirty years, and has personal experience of travel in more than 100 countries around the world.

Clinical Interests: 

Richard has special interests in high risk / frequent travel, pre-travel and post-travel care, and crisis management. He works closely with individual travellers from every walk of life, whether for leisure, on gap year or career breaks, on expeditions, or for work. Richard advises and looks after a wide variety of businesses and organisations with links to international travel, including the emergency services, the news, broadcast, music and entertainment industries, the oil and gas industry, and multinationals with complex needs.

He is a founder member of the International Society of Travel Medicine, and lectures, writes and broadcasts frequently on Travel Medicine issues.
