If you are concerned about HIV infection and /or are displaying any symptoms post-contact, it is recommended you see a doctor as soon as possible. Otherwise, screenings for STD’s can be carried out from 12-14 days post contact.
The doctor or nurse will give an explanation of the available tests, followed by physical examination and sample-taking.
Many STIs, such as chlamydia and gonorrhoea, can be treated with antibiotics. Others, such as herpes simplex virus, can be managed in a way that will decrease symptoms and reduce the risk of transmission.
Every consultation is held in the strictest confidence: no information will be transferred to your own GP unless you request to do so. No details of your medical history will be held on any centralised medical record system.
Appointments can be made with either a male or female doctor. Your privacy will be strictly protected.
