Myanmar is becoming an increasingly popular destination to visit in South-East Asia. The golden pagodas of Yangon and the stupors of Bagan are top on most travellers itineraries, alongside a trip down the Irrawady river to Inle Lake. The  more adventurous may head to the islands on the Myiek archipelago, or hike the hill station of Kalaw. Whatever the itinerary it is essential to to ensure you have sought pre-travel advice to ensure you stay healthy whilst abroad.

It is recommended that all travellers are up to date with their routine immunisations. All travellers should ensure that they have received a vaccination against diphtheria, tetanus and polio in the last 10 years. All travellers are advised to ensure they have been vaccinated against Hepatitis A and Typhoid.

There is no risk of Yellow Fever, however, proof of vaccination will be required if entering from a country that has a risk of Yellow Fever.

There may be a need for additional immunisations. Depending on the nature of the trip, destinations visited, duration of travel and activities, other vaccinations could be considered. These include:-

There is a risk of malaria in parts of Myanmar and antimalarial medication may be advised for some areas. The cities of Yangon and Mandalay have low/no risk of malaria and antimalarial tablets are not advised for these areas.

Prevention against insect bites in Myanmar is essential.

When travelling in Myanmar precautions against food and water borne illnesses should be sought.
